Just because the high school season is over does not mean Bartow County baseball players are putting away their spikes for the summer.

Several players are continuing the baseball season as they play for local travel teams and many of them are playing this week in the 2013 Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association National Championship tournament taking place throughout the Atlanta area.

These teams feature some of the best players in the area and Bartow County is well represented. There are eight teams with at least one Bartow County player.

From June 28 until July 3, each team will play seven pool games. The top 24 teams will continue into a single-elimination tournament, which begins Wednesday and continues until Friday, when a champion will be crowned.

The 9 Stars Saints have the biggest contingent of Bartow County players. Fifteen players from the county are on the team, including Brent Arnold, Cartersville; David Darnell, Cartersville; Jeremiah Mitchell, Cass; Hunter Osborn, Cartersville; Riley Richards, Cartersville; Mason Robinson, Woodland; Grant Robinson, Woodland; Garrett Rutledge, Cartersville; Tristin Smith, Adairsville; Hunter Smith, Adairsville; Hunter Southern, Cass; Houston Stewart, Cartersville; Alex Willingham, Excel Christian Academy; Dylan Cochran, Adairsville; and Lane Griffith, Adairsville.

The Daily Tribune News All-County Player of the Year, Connor Justus, Cartersville, is playing for the defending champion East Cobb Yankees.

Nelson Baseball School lost to Justus’ team last season in the quarterfinals and includes Bartow players Luke Patterson, Woodland; Camden McGill, Woodland; and Chaz Wilson, Cass.
