@Bodycopy:<*p(0,9,0,11,0,0,g(P,S))>Billy “Cookie” Mercado, 59, of Emerson, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013. Born Oct. 31, 1953, he was the son of the late Carl Mercado and the late Nellie Hendricks Mercado. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his brother, Larry Mercado.
He was of the Baptist faith and was truly a family man that put his family and friends first. He loved hunting and fishing in the Etowah River and just being outdoors. He was employed as a truck driver for Self Recycling for 13 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Julie Blalock Mercado; one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Carisa Mercado; and two precious granddaughters, Carson and Carmen Mercado — all of Emerson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, the late Charles Hovers and Barbara Hovers, Carl and Mary Jennings, Buggie and Desiree Blalock, Reggie and Susie Fossett, Mike and Linda Mader, Tommy and Tina Kincannon, Bootsie Blalock, Pat McIntire and Pam Mercado; several nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Shepard and the Rev. Herbert Goodwin officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Juliette Mercado at the Family Savings Federal Credit Union in memory of Billy Mercado to help with medical expenses.
