More than a week after a 24-year-old woman was shot in the face, Cartersville police on Monday identified the suspect.

Christopher Michael Collum, 25, allegedly shot Classie Pratt of Adairsville once in the area of her mouth just before 6 a.m. July 20. Pratt remained at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was airlifted, in serious condition, Cartersville Police Department Capt. Mark Camp said Monday.

A witness and Pratt were at Courtesy Inn, 2235 Highway 411, Cartersville, to “chill and drink beer,” according to the police report. Collum came to the room at some point during the night.

The three were inside the room when, the witness said, Collum pulled out a black handgun to “show it off.” According to the witness, “... The subject started playing with the gun acting all gangster ...,” the report stated.

When Pratt said, “You couldn’t shoot anybody,” the witness told police Collum said, “Yeah, I will. I’ll shoot you.” Pratt then allegedly grabbed the gun, which Collum had put in her face. The witness said the gun went off and Collum fled. According to the witness, Collum was “just kidding with Ms. Pratt.”

Camp said it is not clear whether Collum may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the shooting. There was no information on whether Pratt and Collum had met prior to the night of the incident.

The responding officer said she found Pratt standing between two beds with blood “on her face, hands, in her hair and on her clothing.”

On July 23, Camp said warrants had been taken for Collum, who is wanted for aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of firearm during the commission of a crime.

Police believe Collum is armed with a 9mm, semi-automatic handgun. He is described as a 5-foot-11-inch white male, brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen July 20, driving a blue Ford Ranger — tag number PIF2892 — with a green hood and Confederate flag tag on the front.

Anyone with information on Collum’s whereabouts are asked to call the Cartersville Police Department at 770-382-2526 or the Tip Line at 770-606-5337.
