An argument Monday night went awry when one person was shot.

A man and woman were arguing outside in the area of Hannon Way at Fredda Lane about 10 p.m. when a male suspect shot the man in the neck, according to Cartersville Police Department Capt. Mark Camp. The victim knew the shooter.

Reports indicated there was a group of people outside when the incident occurred. The suspect fled on foot, but no description or name was released Monday night.

According to reports, a magazine containing rounds from a handgun was located in a ditch near the scene.

The victim was breathing when EMS left the scene, and Camp, who was not aware of the man’s condition at 11 p.m., said he was transported by ambulance to Floyd Medical Center. His name was not released.

A neighbor who lives six doors down said she did not hear shots and only became aware of the incident when she heard sirens and saw flashing lights.
