All in all, Friday night’s slate of high school football action was the most successful for Bartow County teams so far in 2013.

Adairsville, Cartersville and Cass all won handily Friday night while Woodland showed improvement in its loss on the road to a quality New Manchester squad.

Adairsville overpowered Pepperell by a score of 33-10 and Cartersville scored 41 points in the first half to put Rockmart away early in the contest.

Meanwhile, Cass had no trouble with Heritage, Catoosa and the prospects are promising for the Colonels in 2013.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cass has a number of talented seniors, and the way head coach Rick Casko spreads out the ball on offense, any one of them is liable to have a breakout game. Keylon Woodard was the player who made his impact felt the most on Friday as the senior had three interceptions, one for a touchdown, in Cass’ 44-7 victory. Woodard had 92 yards on interception returns, including the 34-yard score.

BEST OF THE REST

Chris Morton — Cass (2)

Every time Morton touches the football, he is a threat to go the distance. He did that Friday with a 78-yard touchdown catch. He had another catch for 11 yards to go along with a 58-yard punt return. Morton could have had an additional 55-yard punt return for a would-be touchdown, but the play was called back on a penalty.

Brooks Barden — Cartersville (3)

The game at Rockmart got out of hand early and the Canes took their starters out in the second half. However, Barden still managed to complete 10-of-13 passes for 161 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 34 yards on four carries.

Brandon Long — Cartersville (3)

Long has rushed for 100 yards in all three games so far this season, but in none of the previous two did it happen so quickly. It only took three carries for Long to get to triple digits as he finished with 116 yards on four carries and two touchdowns. The touchdown runs were of 46 and 68 yards.

Alex Barnes — Cartersville

Like the other starters, Barnes only played one half. In that half, Barnes manage to accumulate four tackles, including a sack. He also opened up several holes while playing on the offensive line for Long’s big gains.

Sidnee Johnson — Adairsville (3)

Adairsville’ steady run game pounded Pepperell in the second half and Sidnee Johnson was a big reason why. He also ran a kick back 72 yards to give Adairsville a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.

Honorable Mention

T.L. Ford — Cartersville

Ford had two catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. He did not play in the second half.

Jordan “Boo” Reed — Cass

Reed scooped up a fumble and ran it back 14 yards for a touchdown.

Marcus Childers — Adairsville

Childers, along with Johnson and Tristin Smith, were all part of the three-headed monster in the run game that put Pepperell away in the second half.
