You might see a mulligan allowed in a friendly golf game or something of that nature. However, in a high school softball game between Adairsville and a Cartersville team in the thick of a playoff chase, there are no do-overs.

That is unfortunate for Adairsville, because after a six-run first inning from Cartersville, the Lady Tigers could not make up the deficit and lost the region game to the Lady Canes by a score of 9-1 Thursday night in six innings.

“After the first inning, we played a good game,” Adairsville coach Kandace Bruno said. “We gave them seven outs in the first inning, of course they’re going to score six runs. Take away the first inning and it’s probably a 3-1 ballgame.”

Cartersville did take advantage of three errors in the first inning to score its six runs. Kennedy Bailey came through with a two-run single in her first at bat. Tara Mathis would follow two batters later with a two-run double to take a 4-0 lead. Hunter Irvin then produced an RBI single of her own as Carterville would take advantage of the errors and four walks in the inning.
