The Kingston City Council will have a new member next year. Mike Abernathy has won the race to represent Kingston’s Post 4 on the council.

Abernathy won the race with 91 votes, or 57.59 percent of the total vote. Incumbent Ed Miklas received 9 votes, or 5.7 percent of the total, while Vivian Shaw received 58 votes and 36.71 percent of the votes. A total of 158 votes were cast in the Post 4 race.

Abernathy failed to return calls seeking comment on his victory. According to a Q&A with The Daily Tribune News, his background includes 38 years with Georgia Power and he now pastors for Creekside Fellowship Church. He ran for the position of Bartow County Commissioner in last year’s election.

All voting numbers are unofficial until the Georgia Secretary of State confirms them later this week. Bartow County Election Supervisor Joseph Kirk said the numbers would be confirmed Friday at 5:05 p.m.
