This season head coach Joey Harris thinks his Tigers may have a chance at reaching the state playoffs with several returners having another year of experience under their belts.
“We have, I think, eight returning starters and 14 returning guys total. A couple of those guys were behind guys who were pretty tough,” Harris said. “Even though we don’t have all 14 returners, we do have guys who can step in and compete right away. We have a good core coming back.”
Adairsville had three state placers, including senior Charlie Silvers. Seniors Brett Gutkowski and Andrew Seymour will also be strong returners for the Tigers.
Junior state placer, Chance Bishop, will also return. Bishop and Silvers were each the runner-up in their weight division during the traditional area tournament last year.
The Tigers will miss Hayden Randolph, who was a state placer and was the 128-pound area champion.
Randolph is currently wrestling at Shorter University.
With the returning talent, Harris believes his team can compete for one of the top two spots in the area and a spot in the state duals.
“I do feel like we’ll be able to compete a little bit better as a dual team. I do feel like if we peak at the right time we got some guys where we can take it further than we’ve been the last couple of years,” Harris said. “As far as that goes, we just want to focus on the goals and our goal would be to finish top two and reach the state duals. We’ll see if we can get back down there.”
