Mr. Murphy retired from Neal Pope Ford as service manager after 30 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Atlantic during WWII. Mr. Murphy was a loving and kind man who always tried to do the right thing no matter the circumstances. He was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church in Summerville and was a great man of faith even in the midst of personal tragedy, having lost two children, Patricia Searcy and Gary Murphy, and his spouse of 67 years, Nellie Arp Murphy. He maintained a selfless attitude and continued to be “others” centered. He loved the Lord!
Survivors include his grandchildren, Kim Saye of Woodstock, Tammy Boyd of Acworth, Chandler Searcy and Krista Maddox, both of McDonough, and Courtney Clifton of Rome; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in Georgia National Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Ledbetter officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
