At a called meeting Tuesday, the Euharlee City Council learned that repairs currently underway on Euharlee Five Forks Road needed additional work that will cost an extra $73,922.
“While working at the Euharlee-Five Forks site, it was determined that the site required extra work,” Mayor Kathy Foulk said. “There is a safety issue because the pipe is compromised. The bottom of the pipe is completely gone.”
Councilperson Joe Turner was critical of the project engineers.
“You would think the engineers would have caught that,” Turner said. “It seems like we’re not considering the end results before we start a project.”
Following the brief meeting, the council entered into a regularly scheduled work session where it reviewed the projected 2014 annual budget.
“This is a lot of information to digest in such a short time,” City Manager Trish Sullivan said. “We need to take this budget with us and study it carefully. In a nutshell, revenues increased by 13 percent over 2013.”
Sullivan said the general fund balance is $250,903 or $20,909 monthly.
She also announced the 2014 dates for the town’s two festivals — June 6-7 for the Covered Bridge Que and October 17-19 for the Covered Bridge Fall Festival.
The Euharlee City Council meets next on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
