The Lady Tigers jumped on the Lady Warriors early, outscoring them 13-6 after the first frame. Adairsville stretched that lead to 26-14 by halftime.
The Lady Tigers used a 17-10 run to seize a 43-24 lead after three quarters of play. Gordon Central outscored their hosts 24-13 in the final period.
“This was our first region game and that made it a big win for us,” head coach Meredith Barnhill said. “We played with a lot of defensive intensity in the first half and that helped us.
“We executed our defensive game plan well, which transitioned to our offense working for us tonight.”
Mallorie Collum was a big factor in Adairsville taking control early, with a double-double by halftime.
“She had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the first half,” Barnhill said.
Collum went on to score 20 points on the evening.
Stephanie Kuhrt dropped in 22 points for the cause as well, including going 8-of-10 at the free throw line.
Julia Roberson scored 6 points for Adairsville; Victoria Davis, 5; Kelsy Hice, 3.
Adairsville is 1-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 5B-AAA.
The Lady Tigers return to the hardwood today when they host Rockmart, a non-region contest. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
Tigers beats Gordon Central
It was a big night for two Adairsville seniors.
Sammie Frazier and Tyler Washington each had big games to help the Tigers pick up their first region win Friday night at Adairsville High over the Warriors by a score of 71-55.
Frazier had 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Washington had 19 points six assists and five steals.
“They played outstanding,” Adairsville head coach Kent Howard said. “It’s a good region win. We didn’t play well early on in the game. Give Gordon Central credit. They absolutely shot lights out.”
The Tigers are now 3-1 and welcome Rockmart to Adairsville High today at 7:30 p.m.
