Since signing with CYHM Ministries Nov. 23, Brianna Shelko’s music career has catapulted into the limelight, with the Euharlee resident eyeing national exposure next year.

“It’s so exciting [because] ... it’s like all the doors started opening immediately,” said Shelko, a 2012 graduate of Woodland High School, on Wednesday. “I just was signed with CYHM Ministries. Vince Carr is my new manager. It’s been awesome, because I just recently got back in the studio again and I have lots of studio time. We just had a double concert on Sunday ... and I have another show tonight actually. So it’s been amazing. I have shows lined up and I had the opportunity with MTV to help expose what I’m about. ...

“I’ve wanted to sing and be a Christian pop star since I was probably 4 years old. It is exhilarating, honestly to say the least, because I couldn’t have dreamed that even in a week I would have three shows lined up or the opportunity to share my music with so many people. And I never could have dreamed I would have been on iTunes ... and then to be able to [be featured on] MTV and share with them my music and my Christian walk. It’s exhilarating. It’s like, ‘Wow, I am almost there.’”

On Dec. 11 and 13, MTV filmed Shelko at various Bartow locations — her Euharlee residence, The Gate Coffee Shop, Tabernacle Baptist Church and Bread of Life. While the 19-year-old is not allowed to disclose many details of the MTV show, she said her episode will air in 2014.

“With MTV, it was [an] amazing opportunity,” Shelko said. “There were cameras, lights and all this exciting stuff. For me, it was an opportunity to expose my musical ability and the fact that I’m a Christian and I’m a Christian pop artist.

“So my episode — what I can tell you is that it was based around my Christian beliefs and my daily walk with God. They allowed me to share my musical ability as far as I do get to sing on the show and share one of my original songs,” she said, referring to her single “Replay.” “So that was amazing.”

Along with iTunes, “Replay” is available on Amazon and Spotify. As displayed in her current single, Shelko strives to encourage listeners through her music.

“I wrote the song because ‘Replay’ basically it captures that everybody makes mistakes and no matter how many times you mess up — you can mess up a million times but — once you look up to heaven, you have a God who loves you,” Shelko said. “You see that he’s still there and he never leaves you. ... My artistry is revolved around encouragement. We live in a very downtrodden economy and world.

“So many people feel like they’re misplaced. ... So many people feel that they’re alone, because they have no one to talk to. What I like to develop my songs around is you do have someone there and that it’s going to be OK no matter what.”

For Carr, founder of CYHM Ministries, Shelko’s unique sound and “positive message” helps set her apart from other performers.

“[She] brings a fresh sound and unique flavor to the Christian music industry,” Carr said. “Her music clearly translates a positive message that not only encourages the heart, but brings a smile to the listener. With her single, ‘Replay,’ gaining air play and new fans, Brianna, will soon be a household name. ...”
