Mr. Glen Dorsey Cooley, 83, of Cartersville, passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Mack Eppinger Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Mack Eppinger Funeral Home. The body will lie in state on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

Mr. Glen Dorsey Cooley was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Rockmart, to the late Horace Cooley and Ida Belle Dorsey.

He was educated in the Polk County School District. Glen was one of 12 children. As a young man he moved to Atlanta and became a master plumber. Glen was a member of World Changer Church under Pastor Albert Green.

Glen was well known in his community as a hardworking man. He believed in going to a friend’s aid and he was especially committed to helping his family. Glen always enjoyed his family. It was very important to him to maintain a close and loving relationship with his children and stepchildren. He shared special moments, good times and words of wisdom.

He had a zest for life, he found pleasure in fishing, going out to eat and watching the Braves’ games. Glen had a sense of humor and he loved to joke around.

Glen leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Betty Ann Gibbons and her mother Addie Bee, Athena Palmer and Shirley Ann Cooley and their mother Gladys, and LaKeshia Smarr and her mother Annie Laura; stepchildren, Mary Jean (Arthur) Ford, Lugnia “Peaches” Cooley, Gregory (Darlene) Key, Alice Ward, Freda, Reginald, Ronnie, Kim and Deborah Miller; grandchildren, DeWand Gibbons, Jasmine Palmer, Zavarian Cooley and Eric Cooley Smarr; step-grandchildren, Tawfeeq Stone and Darren Cook; sisters, Earline Cooley Livsey of Columbus, Betty Cooley Henderson and Levon Cooley Ward; brothers, the Rev. Perry (Emma) Cooley, Ralph (Barbara) Cooley of New Hampshire and William Carey Cooley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
