Woodland High School’s Band Boosters Association found a way to help high school students planning to attend the prom while simultaneously raising money for their band program. The boosters are sponsoring Babe’s and Beau’s Consignment Sale on Feb. 10 and 11 at the Woodland High School Performing Arts Center.

The formal wear consignment sale will give students the chance to purchase a prom dress or tuxedo at a more economical price than buying a new one and will enable people to sell items that may have only been worn once and are just hanging in the closet.

Eric Willoughby, WHS band director, said, “This is the first time we’ve done this and so far we are enjoying the process of creating an event that will benefit the community and give us a chance to help our program. There may be students who are not planning to go to the prom because they simply can’t afford to buy a dress after purchasing the ticket to the prom. We hope the consignment sale will ease some of the burden.”

According to the band’s website, the boosters are looking for gently used formal and semi-formal wear, including dresses, tuxedos, suits, shoes, purses, jewelery and accessories. All items must be in excellent condition. The seller determines the price and keeps 70 percent of the proceeds with 30 percent going to the Woodland band. Consigned clothing can be dropped off at the Performing Arts Center on Feb. 9 from 3 to 5:30 pm. On the band’s website under the section titled “Latest News,” sellers can find more information and the required consignment agreement.

“We also will be offering vendor tables for $10. Currently, we have one accessory shop and a hairstylist who have agreed to set up a table outside the sale. The students can pick a dress and then find accessories to match it. They also can go ahead and schedule an appointment with a hairstylist while they are there. We are hoping to have a representative from a nail salon, as well, to schedule appointments,” Willoughby said.

The sale is open to students throughout the community on Monday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.
