Bartow County and Cartersville fire departments Monday afternoon worked a blaze at a vacant mobile home at Lot 29B, 5588 State Route 20, Cartersville.
About 2:30 p.m. BCFD stations 1, 2 and 13 and CFD station 2 responded to find the empty structure about 60 percent involved with flames through a majority of the walls.
BCFD Sgt. Jessica Green said the cause remains under investigation.
The neighboring home received heat damage to the rear, Green said. No one was injured.
Late Sunday BCFD responded to another structure fire at a cabin in Red Top Mountain State Park.
Green said stations 1, 4, 6 and 9 initially were dispatched to investigate a possible fire at 12 Cottage Drive about 9:45 p.m. but were upgraded while en route after flames became visible through a rear wall.
The fire originated in the chimney area, she said, adding that the structure was deemed almost a total loss. The structure was valued at $60,000 prior to the blaze and received $45,000 in damages.
No one was injured and crews were back in service close to 1 a.m. Monday.
Fake bills used in pizza scam
A couple looking to enjoy a slice or two used counterfeit funds Saturday night.
According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office report, a Pizza Hut employee said he delivered an order to the address where a couple met him in the driveway and paid him. The employee said he gave the woman her $3.08 in change and noticed the money she handed over felt strange but said nothing.
When he arrived back at the business, the manager determined the two $20 were fake, which the deputy said had no security marks and were wrong in color.
The employee said he had spoken with employees of two other pizza establishments who said the same address had committed fraud against them in the past.
