The family of a deceased infant are planning a vigil for tonight.

Journey Cowart, 1, died Tuesday night at Cartersville Medical Center. An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office is not complete.

The child’s mother, Brandy Ann Boyd, 25, and Austin Levi Payne, 24 — listed as Boyd’s boyfriend — were arrested Thursday on cruelty to children and aggravated battery charges in connection with the infant’s death.

A candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today near the flag plaza at Cartersville Medical Center.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said homicide charges are likely to follow for Boyd and Payne.

Journey Cowart was the daughter of Blake Cowart, who drowned in the Etowah River in April 2013.
