The crash occurred after a tan Honda Accord fled a Georgia State Patrol trooper when the officer attempted to stop the car on a seat belt violation, said GSP Public Information Officer Gordy Wright. Two air ambulances were called in to transport the victims.
The Honda sideswiped the bumper of the patrol car, left the roadway, traveled through a ditch and a yard before continuing to flee. On Sugar Valley, the Honda passed a vehicle in a curve, swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, left the roadway, struck a culvert and tree before overturning several times at Sugar Valley and Southern Roads. The driver was ejected and the passenger partially ejected.
The driver, a 26-year-old female, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries, and the 26-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with head injuries. At this time, troopers are working to confirm the identities of the two people in the car, Wright said.
