Weather forces rescheduling of athletic events

The recent inclement weather and its effect on the road conditions has cancelled several activities throughout Bartow County this week.

The local high school athletic programs have also been affected as there has not been any practice or games for the five local schools this week.

The teams are preparing to get started once again, which means several changes to the basketball and wrestling schedules


The schools are out tomorrow, but Cartersville will play today. The girls game will begin at Gordon Central at 5 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 6:30 p.m. The Canes will then play their regularly scheduled game Tuesday at home against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Wednesday will be a makeup game of the game scheduled Jan. 28 at Coahulla Creek. Friday’s game at home against North Murray and Saturday’s game at home against Fulton County Leadership Academy are still on as scheduled.

Adairsville will not play its home game today against Coahulla Creek. The game will be moved to Saturday, Feb. 8. Monday’s rescheduled home game against Ringgold is moved to Saturday, Feb. 1, with the girls playing at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ game.

Road games against Sonoraville and LFO will take place as scheduled on Tuesday and Friday of

next week.

Cass will play Woodland as scheduled on Saturday with the girls starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday’s River Ridge boys and girls games are still on schedule and the Colonels’ game scheduled for Jan. 28 has been rescheduled for Wednesday.

Excel’s game today against Mount Zion has been cancelled. The Eagles will play Mount Zion at home Saturday instead of Mount Paran, which was the game originally scheduled. The game will be varsity only and homecoming and senior night festivities will take place at 2 p.m. The girls’ game will take place at 2:30 p.m. with the boys following at 4 p.m. As of press time, there is no makeup date for the Trion game, which was cancelled Tuesday, and the Mount Paran game, which was scheduled for


As for Woodland, after the Wildcats play Cass on Saturday, they will then play, as scheduled, at Rome on Tuesday. The game scheduled for today at Paulding County has been rescheduled for Wednesday. The game scheduled for Jan. 28 at home against Allatoona has been rescheduled for Thursday.


Adairsville and Cartersville’s area traditional tournament was scheduled to take place today and Saturday. Instead, the event is rescheduled for Saturday and Monday.

Cass and Woodland’s area tournaments also were scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but will now take place only on Saturday.
