The toughest opponent Bartow County athletic teams may have to face this week will be the weather, as several events are in jeopardy.

As of press time, Bartow County schools have already cancelled school today and chances are there will be more cancellations to come.

The Woodland boys basketball team and Cass boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to play the first round of their region tournaments Monday. Those games were cancelled and no date has been scheduled for the make up game.

As of press time, Cartersville city schools have cancelled school today and, like in the county system, chances are there will be more cancellations to come.

The Cartersville boys and girls’ first region tournament games are still scheduled for Friday. The Adairsville boys and girls’ first region tournament games are still scheduled for Thursday. Each of those teams are in Region 5-AAA and the tournament will start Wednesday. If Wednesday’s games are unable to be played, it would likely push back Cartersville and Adairsville’s first games as well.

Likewise, Cass was supposed to host Rome in soccer action and Adairsville’s tennis team was supposed to host Cartersville. Those games have been cancelled.

The Woodland girls basketball team is preparing to play its first region tournament game Wednesday, but, according to Athletic Director John Howard, there is unlikely to be athletic events on that day as well.

Meanwhile, the Excel boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to play Monday. Both those teams will be rescheduled to play Thursday. The girls will face St. Francis at Darlington. The boys play Whitefield Academy at Trion.

The wrestling schedule also has been affected as the three-day state traditional tournament to be held at the Gwinnett Center, starting Thursday, has been condensed to two days, Friday and Saturday.
