With a multitude of state-level positions up for grabs this year, political party offices across Georgia are preparing for the March candidate qualifying period.

According to the Georgia secretary of state’s website, sos.ga.gov, the qualifying period will run from Monday, March 3, at 9 a.m. and end Friday, March 7, at noon. The qualifying period is for political party candidates, nonpartisan candidates, independent candidates and political body candidates.

A second qualifying period for independents and political body candidates will be held from Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. and end Friday, June 27, at noon.

Bartow County Republicans wishing to qualify may do so at 127-A W. Main St., Cartersville, according to a notice from the Bartow County Republican Party. The Bartow County Democratic Party, however, has not yet settled on a qualifying location, according to Bartow County Election Supervisor Joseph Kirk.

“And then the Democrats — I just spoke to them yesterday — are still in the process of figuring out where they’re going to do that, and they’re going to let me know when they figure it out,” he said.

Kirk said no city councils or county government positions were on the ballot this year, unless a position opens and a special election is called. However, three Bartow County School Board seats will be on the ballot.

“Here locally it’s just three school board seats: one, two and three,” Kirk said. “The state offices, that’s a whole different ball game. There’s a lot of state offices that will get to qualifying, but that’s all done through the secretary of state’s office.”

Qualifying for state non-partisan offices, such as justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, court of appeals judges and superior court judges, will be conducted at the Elections Division, Suite 802, West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive S.E., Atlanta, or South Georgia Office, 238 E. Second St., Tifton, according to the secretary of state’s website. State office qualifying will occur at the State Capitol. For specific locations, contact the Georgia Republican Party at 404-257-5559 and the Democratic Party of Georgia at 678-278-2016.

Details on qualifying fees and a list of state offices on the ballot are available at sos.ga.gov.
