Cartersville has some new faces on the singles and doubles lines for its girls and boys tennis teams this season.

But their challenge drew a familiar result on Monday, as both girls and boys teams opened with 5-0 victories over Gordon Central.

Last year both Cartersville teams won their respective regions and got as far as the second round of the state playoffs.

On Monday, both teams picked up decisive victories in their season-opening contests.

Head coach Melissa Moore said due to impending bad weather on Monday, the teams played pro-sets with the match lasting approximately an hour.

In girls high school tennis play, Mallory Walker defeated Lindsey Holbert, 8-1, at the singles No. 1 position while Maddi McGinnis blanked Jennifer Rodriguez, 8-0, at the No. 2 position.

Kenly King defeated Torrie Hopper, 8-0, to take the No. 3 slot for Cartersville.

Annabeth and Charleston Fox defeated Janet Chavez and Alicia Estrada, 8-0, at the No. 1 doubles line while Haley Landrum and Kenyl Westmoreland overpowered Melissa Guervara and Zoe Holcomb, 8-0, at the No. 2 doubles spot.

In boys play, Matthew Scott blanked Craig Allee, 8-0, at the singles No. 1 position while Nathan Slocum took an easy victory over Justin Freshour, 8-1, at the singles No. 2 slot. Gordon Central forfeited the singles No. 3 spot.

At the doubles No. 1 line, Avery Andrews and Adam Harper defeated Kyle Sutton and Ryan Kitchens, 8-0, and Gordon Central forfeited its doubles No. 2 match.
