With four downtown restaurants participating — The City Cellar, East Street Tavern, Jefferson’s and Knights — those taking part will be able to receive a free beer at each restaurant by presenting a special ticket. The ticket, Special Event Coordinator Catherine Woods said, comes with the purchase of a $25 T-shirt participants will have to wear.
“It was something that had been brought up ... talking about different promotions. ... I don’t want to say it was solely my idea, some of the restaurants had talked about it, just throwing out ideas over the last couple of months. I decided that March would be a good time to do it,” she said. “Mardi Gras is going on, and St. Patrick’s Day, and we wanted to keep it on our first Friday. I know it doesn’t really coincide with one of the exact holidays, but we wanted to kind of keep the theme of the things going on that month in March.”
In addition to the pub crawl, the First Friday event will also feature downtown shops and restaurants open until 8 p.m., or later, according to a press release, as well as discounts at some stores. Bluegrass musicians are also planning to hold jam sessions at Gilreath Hall. Although Woods was not yet aware of some specials downtown businesses may be offering, she said the DDA would feature them on its website, http://downtowncartersville.org.
“I’m not sure about dinner specials. I know we’ll advertise those later when we’ll get more details from them. I do know that there are going to be several of the businesses that are going to be open until 8 [p.m.] that are going to be having discounts and deals,” Woods said.
The pub crawl, as well as the First Friday series as a whole, is intended to bring different groups of people downtown, Woods added.
“I think it’s going great. We have a lot of the businesses excited about it, which is what I’m really concerned with right now. The more businesses that we can get to participate, I think the better they’re going to go throughout the year. We’re already talking about what we want to do for April,” Woods said of future events. “We’re already setting up meetings to have early and trying to do things in advance to get things rolling before getting too close to the deadline.”
