Woodard, Morning highlight Cass track and field

The Cass boys and girls track teams participated in the Southeast/Northwest Whitfield Invitational held at Southeast Whitfield High Saturday as the boys placed third and the girls placed sixth in the 10-team invitational.

Keylon Woodard and Jaison Morning highlighted the day for the Colonels, each winning their respective events.

Woodard finsihed first in the triple jump with a jump of 44 feet, five inches. He also finished second in the long jump, with a distance of 20 feet, and second in the 100 meter with a time of 11.1 seconds.

Morning came in first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:31.67. He also finished third in the 1600 with a time of 4:52.50. Walter Brown was another Colonel who had a strong performance as he came in second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.78 and third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.15 seconds. Justin Reed earned Cass points with his discus throw of 117 feet, five inches, good enough for second place. Also finishing second in his event was Aja Morris in the shot put with a distance of 44 feet and 11.05 inches.

For the Lady Colonels, Kendra Simmons had the best finish as she came in second place in the discuss with a distance of 84 feet, five inches.

Jasmine Alonzo also had a strong performance, finishing fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:47.00.

Cass will run again Thursday at Southeast High in a tri-meet and again Saturday at the Dalton Rotary Club Invitational in Dalton.
