The chief of police in Euharlee was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning while directing traffic.

EPD Chief Terry Harget was standing along the center line of Euharlee Road in front of Woodland Middle School when a 2002 Chrysler Concorde driven by Alex Rouse, 18, struck Harget.

Bartow County EMS Public Safety Awareness Coordinator Brad Cothran said Harget was conscious and alert when EMS arrived, although somewhat confused. Harget was transported to Floyd Medical Center due to a possible head injury. Upon arrival at Floyd, Cothran said, Harget was conscious and alert but still confused, asking repetitive questions. He was released later Wednesday.

Rouse was charged with failure to obey authorized person directing traffic, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The speed limit in the area of the school is 25 mph during morning and afternoon hours at the height of school traffic.
