In a continuing attempt to educate its members about the benefits it offers, the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce will host its second Participation Leads to Unlimited Growth orientation Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

The orientation, to be held in the Anheuser-Busch Community Room, will be lead by chamber Chair Adena Harper as well as the chamber’s ambassadors. Among the topics presented will be marketing opportunities, events and sponsorships available only to chamber members, in addition to other topics.

“What we talk about ... the chamber website is a world of information and a lot of people don’t realize that they can utilize [it] to grow their business, so we talk about how they can promote things with their business, how they can add things to the calendar,” said Harper. “So we do a little bit of social media on how they can work, how they can get logged in. ... So we talk a little about the how they can work the chamber website ... we talk about how they can get involved in a committee. We have committees that are just starting up this summer and the fall, so we’re encouraging them to get involved with that.”

Harper described the orientation as having “a casual atmosphere” where she will also ask questions of business owners and encourage them to become involved in chamber activities. Friday’s orientation will mark the second one of the series, with the first event held in February. Harper said she was pleased with the first turnout.

“Oh, it was incredible ... this is one of the initiatives that our 2014 board of directors really placed an emphasis on is showing ways that our chamber members can get orientated into the chamber and get involved, as well as grow their business. We had a wonderful turnout. It was incredible.”

Harper estimated the first event had 45 to 50 business members in attendance. Chamber Membership and Marketing Director Chris Thomas said the first group was a mix of new and old members.

“We had new members there. We had members that maybe have been in the chamber for a year and then we had members that have been involved in the chamber for years. I think the greatest thing about it is that it was kind of a refresher course for some of those people that had been in ... business for years and kind of needed a little boost about what all there was to be involved in the chamber with and how they could grow their business through the chamber,” he said. “One person said that they’d been spending time working in their business and not on their business and this was a good opportunity for them to come and [get] a little shot in the arm to rejuvenate their chamber membership and let them know there are more things to be involved in — not just networking, but the different events that we have and sponsorship opportunities and classes and events.”

The PLUG orientation is free to chamber members, and Harper encourages business owners to bring their business cards. Those interested are asked to RSVP to Thomas by noon Thursday by calling 770-382-1466 or emailing chris@cartersvillechamber.com.

Future orientations will be held monthly except for June, September and December, as a Rise & Shine Mixer is scheduled for those months.
