Burns sent one female to the hospital Monday evening.

Bartow County EMS responded to a Gilreath Road residence about 9 p.m. Monday after the female received first- and second-degree burns to her arms and upper torso, EMS Public Information Officer Brad Cothran said.

He said the woman’s clothes caught fire, although EMS crews were unsure how.

Bartow County Fire Department was not available for information by press time.

The woman was airlifted to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, he said.

Driver injured when semi runs off I-75

A semi-truck without a trailer ran off Interstate 75 northbound near exit 290 Monday morning.

Cartersville Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim McClung said the semi ran off the road about 10 a.m. and went down a 40-foot embankment. During the wreck the semi went through a guardrail, damaging the fuel tanks and spilling fuel.

Bartow County Fire Department Sgt. Jessica Green said hazardous materials crews were on scene until about 5 p.m.

The right lane, as well as part of the exit lane, were shut down following the wreck.

Green said the semi’s only occupant, the driver, was injured and transported to Cartersville Medical Center. He was later transferred to Erlanger Health System. His injuries remain unknown.
