Cartersville police responded to a loud music complaint at the Bartow Motel at 803 Joe Frank Harris Parkway on Friday.

Another officer said he had observed suspicious activity coming from that room earlier in the evening. He said when he entered the parking lot, he saw two black males hastily enter a room before he pulled up.

Two officers approached Room 141 and observed smoke billowing out of the door. A woman who identified herself as the room owner denied any drug activity and allowed a search, while another officer asked the black males for identification and asked if anyone was on probation. Several males said they were.

At one point, one of the males was seen throwing a necklace with a small metal container into an adjoining room. When one of the officers attempted to retrieve it, he found a bag containing suspected methamphetamine, hydrocodone, crack cocaine, marijuana and smoking paraphernalia.

All six suspects were arrested and charged with 10 counts of drug possession and possession of drug-related items.

Rape suspect charged with 32 counts of child porn

Adairsville Police Department investigators filed 32 felony counts of sexual exploitation of children against Chancey Earl Droney, 42, of Canton. Droney had been previously arrested by APD for rape and other charges stemming from an incident on March 31.

Adairsville Police Chief Robert Jones said the arrest, which resulted from a joint investigation with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, yielded 32 pornographic images of children under the age of 16.

Droney is being held at the Bartow County Jail.
