Floyd County Deputy Corner Gene Proctor said Justice Caden Mayo was visiting his grandfather in Floyd County. During the visit, as the grandfather worked on a water line in front of his home, Mayo disappeared. Proctor said the grandfather called 911 to report the missing child.
Mayo was later found at the bottom of a swimming pool in the backyard.
“We’re not sure if he had fallen in, or got in on his own,” Proctor said.
After being transported to Floyd Medical Center, Mayo was pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m.
Proctor said no charges were being filed.
“No. It’s just an accident, just a really terrible accident. I happen to know that this kid was really, really close to his grandfather. It was a really just horrific accident,” he said.
Proctor said the body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy, which could be completed as early as today.
