Unopposed primary candidates cruise through election night

As candidates seeking office across the state waited for election results Tuesday night, a number of incumbent Bartow County legislators and judges did not have to worry about challengers during the primary.

State Sen. Bruce Thompson (R-White) of the 14th District, ran unopposed and received 3,107 votes during the primary.

State Sen. Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome) of the 52nd District received 2,124 votes in his unopposed race.

State Rep. Christian Coomer (R-Cartersville) of the 14th District received 2,204 votes.

State Rep. Paul Battles (R-Cartersville) of the 15th District received 2,871 votes.

Democratic candidate Dylan Patrick, running in the 15th District, received 413 votes. Patrick will face off against Battles during the November election.

State Rep. Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) of the 16th District received 420 votes in his unopposed race.

In the Bartow County Superior Court, Judge Carey Nelson received 6,248 votes. Judge David Smith received 6,130 votes. Judge D. Scott Smith received 6,151 votes.

All numbers are taken from the Georgia Secretary of State’s website. An election official will confirm the results at a later date.
