“We were very grateful first of all that our community would view us with such high standards,” said Hodge, who owns the Cartersville establishment with her father, Tim Thompson. “[We are] just very proud and glad to be a part of the downtown and glad to be a part of the community, period. I was just humbled.”
Opened in 2005, Swheat Market Deli is located at 5 E. Main St. While Swheat Market Deli was a first-time award recipient last year, the other People’s Choice victors were repeat winners. Spring Place Pottery & Artists’ Gallery was recognized as the best shop for the second year in a row and the Booth Western Art Museum received its fourth best attraction accolade.
Through Aug. 31, individuals can vote for their favorite establishments at the local CVB’s website, www.VisitCartersvilleGA.org, or Facebook page, www.facebook.com/VisitCartersville. Only one vote can be cast per computer for the 2014 People’s Choice Awards survey.
“As we were operating the Visitor Information Center, it became very evident that one of the first questions that people ask is, ‘Where’s a good place to eat?’” said Regina Wheeler, deputy director for the Cartersville-Bartow County CVB. “And then the second thing is ... they want to know what there is to see and do. So we just decided to create these awards basically to kind of get the opinions of our local residents and visitors that know us well or maybe frequent us quite often.
“We look at a visitor as anybody that could potentially come and stay overnight, but we have a lot of day visitors who do drive up from the metro area and from around north Georgia that just love our community. So we wanted to honor those opinions. The online presence and nature of this particular survey allows us to do that because wherever you are in front of your computer, you can weigh in.”
The awards will be presented at the 39th annual Arts Festival at Rose Lawn, 224 W. Cherokee Ave. in Cartersville, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. The accolades will accompany the CVB’s Hospitality Heroes Awards, which recognize instrumental current or former residents of Bartow County. While the People’s Choice Awards are voted on by the public, the Hospitality Heroes are nominated by various organizations, with the recipients selected by the CVB board of directors.
