The Phoenix Air flight, carrying the number PHA333, was en route to Terceira Island late Thursday, according to FlightAware.com, an online flight tracking service. As of press time, the flight was approximately one hour away from the island and Lajes Air Base. According to reports from CNN, the flight’s final destination is Liberia.
Flight 333 left Cartersville Airport at 5:08 p.m., according to flight tracking information.
The aid workers were identified as Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol. The Associated Press reported at least one of the aid workers was expected to receive treatment at Emory University Hospital, citing the hospital’s close location to the Centers for Disease Control and hospital’s isolation unit. CNN reported Flight 333 is carrying a specialized containment unit to transport the patients.
As of press time it is unclear when the flight will return to the states, as return flight information was not available.
Attempts to reach Phoenix Air officials for comment were unsuccessful.
