“With the exception of a few minor things that need to be addressed, we are done with the park,” he said. “One year ago we started construction and now we are done.”
Thayer said there were a few issues related to warranties, but they would be addressed during the year.
The council authorized $1,290 to repair the sprinkler system on the historic Euharlee covered bridge.
Planning and Zoning Administrator Ron Goss said the money would be used to bring things up to code.
“We have to make some minor changes to some of the valves,” Goss said. “It’s an outdated system that had gotten clogged with debris. As soon as we get that taken care of, it will be up to code.”
Goss also recommended installing cameras to guard against vandalism.
Thayer recommended that the council change its way of voting.
“I want to make a change in the interest of integrity and openness,” he said. “Instead of voting verbally, I would rather we all raise our right hand when we vote.”
In other business, the council:
• Voted to host town hall meetings on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon to discuss updating the concept for the downtown area.
• Approved amendments to the 2014 budget.
• Approved interest rates for the city’s insurance policies.
The Euharlee City Council’s next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at city hall.
