The Georgia Highlands baseball team will unofficially begin its sophomore season when the Chargers begin fall baseball practice today at Richard Bell Field with a 5:30 p.m. session.

The fall roster includes familiar names to Bartow County high school baseball fans, including Ty Fowler (Cartersville), Brent Arnold (Cartersville), Destin Herron (Cartersville), Alex Yauslin (Cass), Trevor Odom (Cass), along with 60 other talented newcomers from across northwest Georgia.

“Sunday is getting all the coaches and players excited, I think even Dr. Donald Green (GHC President) is really excited for the team to finally get on the field,” head coach Mike Marra said in a press release. “The players are ready to take it to the next level as we participate in group work as we begin this semester.”

The fall practice season will culminate with the Orange and Blue World Series on Oct. 21 to 23 at Richard Bell Field.

“It goes beyond the hitting and the pitching. It is time to establish an identity as a team,” Marra said. “This is when the leadership starts to come through and team camaraderie starts to build. We will work in small groups and as a full squad, but we are not a team yet, just a bunch of young, talented kids. Starting practice will help us develop that chemistry.”
