Lee hits 2 HRs for Colonels

Hannah Lee hit two home runs and Cass crushed North Paulding, 13-4, in the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash on Saturday.

Lee led the Lady Colonels’ offensive explosion by driving in eight runs and also picked up the win in the circle.

Cass lost its other two games played at Cherokee as part of the tournament, falling 13-4 to Cherokee and 9-2 to Thomas County Central.

Cass got its offense cranked up early against North Paulding, scoring five runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.

North Paulding scored a run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

The first three Lady Colonel batters were hit by pitches in the bottom of the first. Lee then homered to center field, driving in Hope Elrod, Lauren Womack and Sierrah Gani. Katelin White got on base with a base on balls, advanced to second on a groundout by Savannah Hutchens, stole third and then scored when Tori Evans grounded out to the shortstop, giving Cass a 5-0 lead.

Womack singled her way on in the second inning, advanced to second when Gani walked and scored on a single to left field by Lee.

Gani later scored on an error by North Paulding and Sarah Fox scored when Evans grounded out to the shortstop.

Alexia Najarro opened scoring for Cass in the fourth on a triple by Hutchins. Najarro, courtesy runner for Lee, who reached on an error, had moved to second when White grounded out. Hutchins was singled in by Evans.

Lee closed out scoring for Cass in the fifth inning when she hit a three-run shot that also scored Fox and Gani. Fox had singled her way on base and gone to second on a single to centerfield by Gani.

Lee allowed four runs over five innings. She struck out three, walked none and gave up 10 hits.

Cherokee 13, Cass 4

Cass lost its two other games played Saturday as part of the tournament.

The Lady Colonels fell, 13-4, to Cherokee in a game that started at 8:30 a.m.

Cherokee led all the way in that game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and taking command with four runs in the second frame. It scored one run in the third, three in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Cass scored two runs in the third and fourth innings but the rally came up short. The runs were scored by Womack, Fox, Lynnsey Hollifield and Hutchins. The hits were from Womack, one; White, two doubles; Hutchins, one; Lee, one; and Gani, two.

The Lady Colonels had seven hits in the contest while Cherokee pounded out 20.

Kalee Rush took the loss for Cass, allowing six runs in 2 2/3 innings.

TCC 9, Cass 2

Cass couldn’t get its offense untracked quickly enough and fell to Thomas County, 9-2, in a game that started at 4:30 p.m.

Thomas County failed to score in its first two innings but sent five runners across the plate in the third to grab a 5-0 lead.

Cass struck back with two runs in the fourth inning, closing to 5-2, but couldn’t shut down their opponent’s offense and Thomas County scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth.

Rush took the loss for Cass.

Gani and Lee scored both runs for the Lady Colonels. Gani, Lee, White and Aleigha McDaniel tallied the team’s hits.
