A 32-year-old Acworth resident, Juvenal Vega Rivera, of 4375 Clark Circle, was arrested by a Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy Sunday afternoon and charged with felony aggravated assault, damage to private property, and misdemeanor criminal trespass after allegedly approaching a woman with a knife in his hand.

According to the incident report, a deputy responded to the Clark Circle residence and saw Rivera, the alleged victim and a witness standing at the end of the driveway.

The alleged victim said she had arrived at the residence and found Rivera to be intoxicated. Rivera yelled at her as tried to leave, then allegedly picked up a machete near the backdoor and approached her. She said she continued to back up as Rivera continued to approach her.

The woman said Rivera then swung the machete at her but she was able to get out of its path, with the machete instead hitting a refrigerator and damaging the refrigerator's door. She left and called 911.

The witness, the woman's daughter, gave the same account of what happened.

The deputy said Rivera did appear to be highly intoxicated, and Rivera said the woman had had a knife in her hand and threatened to kill him.

Upon the deputy's request Rivera went to a wooded area behind the residence and showed him where the machete was. It was recovered and taken into evidence.
