Dear Editor:

On June 5, the United Nations will bring together communities from around the globe for World Environment Day, a celebration of our collective responsibility to help the environment. Anheuser-Busch is a proud supporter of World Environment Day, and we continually look for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle at our U.S. breweries, while maintaining our high-quality standards for brewing beer.

Our U.S. breweries recycle more than 99 percent of the solid waste they generate in the brewing and packaging process, and our operations have reduced fuel use by nearly 27 percent since 2004. We've also reduced our water use by 32 percent in the same period, saving nearly 23 billion liters of water.

Locally at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Cartersville, we recycle more than 99 percent of solid waste generated. In addition, our Bio-Energy Recovery System, a technology that uses nutrient-rich wastewater from the brewing process to create and capture a renewable fuel, provides approximately 15 percent of the brewery's fuel needs.

In celebration of World Environment Day, we're partnering with the Upper Etowah River Alliance to support watershed restoration and educate brewery employees on rainwater collection systems.

We encourage our friends and neighbors in Cartersville to join us in taking action for the environment and making at least one positive change to help sustain our planet. By working together, we can keep our community clean, safe and beautiful for future generations.

Sincerely,

Michael Murphy
