Benjamin Gerald "Jerry" McCollum, 64, of Cartersville died Monday, June 7, 2010, at Cartersville Medical Center.

Born in Bartow County, June 27, 1945, he was the son of the late Ben Grady McCollum and the late Frances Keith McCollum. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and loved to hunt, fish, watch the races and attend his grandchildren's baseball games. Before retirement he was employed by the Bartow County Sheriff's Department. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tommy Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Wanda Faye McClure McCollum of Cartersville; his children, Johnny McCollum and (Jada), Joey McCollum and (Faith) and Bree McCollum; his grandchildren, Baylee and Jonah McCollum, Jordan Griffin, Drew, Jessica and Hannah Johnson, Hayden and Jake McCollum, Darius and Reggie Huskins; his brother, Keith McCollum; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hibberts, Clifford McClure, Rev. Marlon Haney and Pastor Mike Abernathy officiating. Interment will follow in Cassville Cemetery. Jerry will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie-in-state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Thursday and will include: Brandon Kennedy, Justin Kennedy, Brian McCollum, Sean Worthington, Mickey Morris and Josh Cline. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Darius Huskins, Jonah McCollum, Reggie Huskins and Drew Johnson.
