Cartersville Purple Hurricanes pitching ace Adam Clarke has been named to play in the Georgia-Tennessee All-Star Baseball Classic, which will take place Monday.

The game will be played at AT&T Field, home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, with a 6 p.m. start slated for the game.

Tennessee has an overwhelming 7-1 lead in the series but Georgia claimed its first win last year.

Veteran skipper Bob Brotherton, head coach for the Dalton Catamounts, will guide Team Georgia in the ninth annual game. Jared Hensley of Soddy-Daisy will direct Team Tennessee.

The game pits baseball players who recently graduated from Northwest Georgia high schools against those from the Southeast Tennessee area.

Also on the Team Georgia roster with Clarke are players from Ringgold, Gordon Lee, Northwest Whitfield, Dalton, Heritage, LaFayette, LFO, Ridgeland, Trion, Chattooga, Southeast Whitfield, Armuchee and Calhoun.

Clarke, who has signed a scholarship with Northwest Florida to continue his baseball career at the next level, was one of the leaders for the Canes this season, helping guide his teammates to the Class AAA quarterfinals, where they fell to Columbus, eventual state champions.

Clarke finished with an 8-3 record, and he had a 1.92 ERA. He fanned 88 batters and surrendered 34 walks in 69 2/3 innings during the season.

Clarke earlier was named to the Georgia Dugout Club Top 96 Senior All-Star Team.
