According to the report, about 6:30 p.m. the motorist said a Latino man waved at him and then jumped off the bridge. A responding Emerson police officer reported locating a bottle attached to a rope floating in the river. The officer said there were air bubble floating around the bottle and a person could be at the end of the rope.
The Emerson officer and the responding deputy checked a nearby trail and located Emmanuel Medina, of 30 Weaver St., Cartersville. According to the report, Medina was intoxicated and told officers he was sleeping before admitting to jumping off the bridge.
Medina was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Accidents and fires
Cartersville police reported working one accident Saturday. About 5:30 p.m. a 1994 BMW 525I backed into a 1996 Ford Taurus at 100 Gentilly Blvd. No one was injured or cited.
The Georgia State Patrol reported working eight accidents with seven injuries in the 24 hours through 5 p.m. Sunday.
Bartow County and Cartersville firefighters reported working no fires in the same time period.
