Bartow, Cartersville all-star youths starting play here, across region

A number of Bartow and Cartersville all-star baseball players will kick off their playoff season next week.

The Georgia Recreation and Park Association District 5 Mite Boys Championship tournament, which features two Bartow County and three Cartersville all-star teams, will play their games at Hamilton Crossing.

Brenton Baggett, Bartow County Recreation Department assistant director, said Bartow County will be represented by one team of 9-year olds and a second team of 10-year-olds.

He said Cartersville will be represented by one team of 9-year-olds, one of 10-year-olds, and a third team including youths ages 9 and 10.

Also competing in the tournament will be teams from Rome-Floyd and Cherokee counties.

The games begin June 21 and will be played on Field 4 and Field 7 at the park.

He said about 80 youths are expected to compete in the tournament.

Bartow and Cartersville teams will be playing at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. that day.

The GRPA District 5 Mite Girls Fastpitch Softball Championship tournament will be played June 24 through June 28, also at Hamilton Crossing, fields 9 and 10.

The tournament will include two teams each from Cartersville and Bartow County. Other teams competing are from Cedartown, Rockmart, Bremen and Rome-Floyd County.

Cartersville and Bartow County teams are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on June 24.

The tournaments are expected to bring several hundred visitors to the county.

The GRPA 12U Midget Baseball District 5 Championship tourney will be played at Al Rollins Park, 521 Threadmill Road, in Dalton.

The June 21-24 tourney features three Cartersville teams and one from Bartow County. Teams from Dalton and Rome-Floyd County also will be competing.

Cartersville and Bartow teams will be playing at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. June 21.

The GRPA 14U Junior Baseball District 5 Championship tourney will be played at Al Rollins Park, 521 Threadmill Road, in Dalton.

The June 21-24 tourney features one team from Bartow County and Cartersville as well as teams from Cobb County, Rome and Dalton.

The Cartersville and Bartow County teams are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on June 21.

Officials said there are a number of other games that will be played as well.

A lot of other youngsters are playing on various traveling teams locally and across the region, with some squads playing other teams in the region, across the Southeast and some traveling around the country for their games.
