A man wanted on an aggravated assault arrest warrant issued in Polk County allegedly led Georgia State Patrol and Bartow and Floyd counties’ law enforcement authorities on a motor vehicle chase, police scanner traffic indicated around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man, whom Floyd County authorities apparently chased on U.S. Highway 411 from the Rome area, allegedly fired shots at officers in Floyd County and tried to hit officers in Bartow with the silver Kia he was driving. He was arrested on U.S. Highway 41 at Grassdale Road around 5:40 p.m., and police scanner traffic indicated the man was holding a firearm out the window a short time earlier.

The chase reached speeds of 100 mph, and Cartersville police officers were requested to shut down roads and intersections as the man reached Mac Johnson Road on U.S. Highway 41. Police alleged the man, who was not identified as of press time, had threatened to “take down” law enforcement officers.

According to discussions on the police scanner, the driver dodged at least two sets of stop sticks, and police may have utilized the PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.
