Bartow County Fire Department was busy Monday evening and into Tuesday after three homes were damaged by fires. Two of the homes were total losses.

The first occurred at 9:05 p.m. Monday and involved a lightning strike on a house at 329 Amberidge Drive, Cartersville. According to BCFD Capt. Darrell Abernathy, the strike blew out some sheetrock, damaged power supply insulation in one room and tripped a circuit breaker. No one was injured.

Firefighters at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday received a call at 61 Lazy Water Drive in Euharlee and found the fire on a woodframe residence heavily involved by the time they arrived. The unoccupied house was a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Abernathy said. Firefighters returned to service at 5:01 a.m.

Later Tuesday, firefighters from three stations responded to a fire at 299 Cass Pine Log Road. They were called to the scene at 8:46 a.m. and upon arriving at 8:55 found more than 50 percent of the home involved in fire, according to Battalion Chief Bryan Cox. The fire was reported under control at 9:26 but was a total loss.

Cox said the cause of the fire has not been determined. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.

Bartow County firefighters worked three fire-related calls during the 24-hour period prior to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cartersville fire personnel reported working no fire calls during the same period.
