Man arrested in connection with assaults

Bartow County Sheriff's Office investigators have arrested a 20-year-old Acworth man in connection with two reported assaults.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, Daniel Travis Anderson, 68 Walnut Trail, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment and battery and is currently awaiting bond hearing in the Bartow County Jail.

The aggravated battery and false imprisonment charges were the results of a June 25 report of aggravated battery, which occurred on Spruce Lane. The victim, a 49-year-old Cartersville man, was treated at Cartersville Medical Center for a broken neck, which allegedly occurred June 11-12.

The battery charge results from a November 2009 investigation in which another victim was injured and required treatment from an incident involving Anderson in the same area.

Millsap states that the investigation in ongoing and more arrests and charges are possible in the case. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Three men who allegedly robbed the Ludy B's, 617 N. Tennessee St., Cartersville, left the clerk injured Tuesday.

According to the report, the three entered demanding money. When the cashier was unable to open the register drawer one of the suspects shoved past the woman, pushing her into a shelf. The woman said a glass bowl fell from the top shelf, striking her in the head, before she fell and bit her tongue.

The man who pushed past the woman was described as a black male in his 20s with close-cut hair, wearing multi-colored contact lenses, a green T-shirt and green hat with a Nike logo. The other two suspects were described only as black males.

Man says yard

was set on fire

A Arrington Road resident reported that someone had torched his yard early Wednesday.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office report, the man told deputies he was awakened just before 6 a.m. by a motorist who advised him the front yard was on fire.

When the man went outside, there was a trail of fire from the mailbox leading to a wooded area near the garage. He said he had experienced an ongoing problem with a neighbor.

Woman arrested after crashing into fence

A Cartersville woman was arrested Tuesday evening after crashing her 2000 Chrysler Cirrus into a Wingfoot Trail fence.

According to the Cartersville police report, a witness said Caroline O'Neill of 46-B Young St., Cartersville, drove into her backyard in reverse, striking a fence with the rear of the vehicle before trying to pull out and hitting the fence with the front of the car.

O'Neill told police she had been drinking and had taken seven to nine Xanax, which she got from a friend "so she can self medicate."

No one was injured. O'Neill was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Cartersville police also reported working the following Tuesday crashes:

* Just before 8 a.m. the driver of a 2009 Kia Sportage said he blacked out at the wheel, which caused him to strike a 1996 Chevy Blazer at 2 Dean Drive. He was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for evaluation. The Sportage was slightly damaged and the Blazer showed moderate damage. There were no other injuries or citations reported.

* About 11:30 a.m. a 2007 GMC Savana and a 2005 Chevy Malibu collided in the intersection of South Erwin Street and West Avenue. Both parties said the other party ran the traffic light. Due to conflicting statements, no one was cited. Both drivers were taken to Cartersville Medical Center for minor injuries. The GMC was extensively damaged and the Malibu showed moderate damage.

* Just before 1 p.m. a 2005 Lexus 330 struck a Cartersville investigation vehicle parked behind a disabled vehicle at Etowah Drive and Ga. 61. The driver of the Lexus said she tried to go around the 2001 Ford Crown Victoria but misjudged the clearance. No citations or injuries were reported. The Lexus and the Ford were slightly damaged.

* About 2:15 p.m. a 1996 Toyota Avalon pulled into a 2004 Honda Odyssey at North Morningside Drive and Ga. 3. The driver of the Toyota, who refused treatment for visible contusions on the left shin and ankle, was cited for failure to yield. A passenger in the Honda complained of left shoulder pain but refused transport. The vehicles sustained moderate damage.

* A 2009 Toyota Sienna rear-ended a 2008 Toyota 4Runner just before 5:30 p.m. on Church Street at Main Street. The driver of the Sienna was cited for following too closely. The vehicles were slightly damaged. No injuries were reported.

The Georgia State Patrol reported working five accidents with no injuries in the 24 hours through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Fires

Bartow County and Cartersville firefighters reported working no fires in the 24 hours through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
