A traffic stop by a Cartersville police officer Saturday evening ended with the arrest of the driver for suspected possession of methamphetamine.

Just after 9 p.m., the officer reported a Toyota Corolla driven by Corey Sanchez, 36, of 21 Freeda Lane, Cartersville, was without a working third brake light and a tail light lens. The driver also failed to use a turn signal as he turned onto Tennessee Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to the report.

Because Sanchez was visibly nervous and shaking, the officer had the man step to the rear of the vehicle where he admitted to having a knife in his pocket but refused to allow the officer a further search of his person. Sanchez agreed to a search of his vehicle, which yielded a piece of a baggie containing one suspected Alprazolam pill.

After being placed under arrest for possession of a schedule IV narcotic, the officer recovered a film canister in Sanchez's rear pocket that contained two small baggies of suspected meth.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with possession of meth, possession of schedule IV narcotic, inoperable third brake light and tail light violation.
