Mr. Chappell was born in Columbus, Ga., Nov. 23, 1944, son of the late Arline Lou James and Vesta Mae Hunt Chappell. He had worked in the textile industry, was of the Pentecostal faith, and preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn Mae Gaskins-Chappell; two sons, Anthony Calvin Chappell and Calvin Lee Chappell; and a sister, Vera Mae Akason.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Joyce Rogers Chappell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn Mae (Timmy) Hall, Judy Elaine (Kenneth) Roberts, and Zula Juanita (Alex Glassgow) Carter; a stepson, John D. Crane III; three brothers, Eugene (Liz) Chappell, Curtis (Gloria) Chappell, and Tommy (Lola Chastain) Chappell; three sisters, Martha Reed, Arlene Lendenfleser, and Yvonne Adcock; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14, at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Full Bible Church, Adairsville, with Rev. J.D. Ray and Rev. Richard Young officiating. Interment will follow in Towes Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Timmy Hall Jr., Micheal Mitchell, T. J. Carter, David Ray, Shannon Styles, Bruce Hudson, Micheal Hall and Burnan Hall.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening after 6 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Full Bible Church, Adairsville.
