Rev. McPherson was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Bartow County, a son of P.C. McPherson and Mamie Lee Maddox McPherson.
Rev. McPherson was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was captured during the "Battle of the Bulge" and was a Prisoner of War for three and a half months in Germany.
He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and worked as a carpenter. A well known local Baptist Minister, Rev. McPherson served the following churches in Bartow County during the years: Connesena Baptist Church, Macedonia Baptist Church, in Euharlee, Emerson Baptist Church, Snow Springs Baptist Church, Raccoon Creek Baptist Church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pine Grove Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Rae Haney McPherson and survivors include his children, Michael and Patricia McPherson, Carol and Jerry Branton, Don and Mary McPherson and Keith and Wanda McPherson, all of Cartersville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Mary Baker, Fannie Stafford, John L., Jim C., Herbert, Delmus, Leo, Pinkney, Pat and Luther McPherson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Rex McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
The following grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers: Kevin Branton, Brian McPherson, Brandon McPherson, Kenneth McPherson, Dwight Goss and Jim McPherson. For those desiring in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your local church or your favorite charity.
