Two children were airlifted to an Atlanta hospital after being burned during a grease fire Wednesday.

About 11:30 a.m. Bartow County Fire Department, EMS and Adairsville police responded to the 106-A Piedmont St. home where the two girls, ages 4 and 5, were burned by grease, according to an Adairsville Police Department press release.

An investigation determined the childrens' mother had been cooking on the stove when the fire began. APD Chief Charles Stafford said Wednesday afternoon the woman had sent the children to a neighbor's residence after the blaze broke out.

When the woman attempted to throw the grease out the back door, the children -- returning from the neighbor's residence -- ran in front of the woman as she discarded the burning pot. The pair suffered burns on their legs.

The juveniles were airlifted by Erlanger's Life Flight and Children's Hospital of Atlanta to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Stafford said at this time it appears the incident was an accident and the case is being referred to the Department of Family and Children Services.

Man reports being "jumped" by two unknown suspects

A resident of White told Bartow County Sheriff's deputies late Tuesday that two unknown men came to his home and "jumped" him.

The victim told deputies he heard a knock and went to the door. When he walked outside, a white Jeep Cherokee was parked in his driveway with two men sitting inside, according to the report. The man said when he approached and asked what the men were doing, they got out and began hitting the victim.

The victim said in the course of the altercation, he was punched, kicked and placed in a chokehold before one of the men pulled out a Taser. He said he escaped the chokehold and kicked away the Taser. The second suspect then appeared to be pulling a knife when the victim reached for a knife holstered on his hip. The two then fled with the victim chasing them. The man said he was able to stab the right front tire of the suspects' vehicle.

The victim, who refused treatment for visible injuries, said he did not know the two men. Officers were able to locate the Taser.
