'...Why would the immigrants not vote Democratic?'

Dear Editor,

I didn't know my recent letter to the Editor was going to be read by such a brilliant person as Mr. Frank Potvin. He seems to know all about spies and how they enter our country. I suppose he also knows if any have crossed the border illegally and unnoticed in recent times and what they are doing. I am sure the CIA would appreciate it if he would share his information with them.

Mr. Potvin suggests that I should consider that the current administration is doing no less than the previous administration to stem the tide of undocumented workers into our country. No doubt, this is true. What I, and the majority of the American people, wanted to see is for the Federal Government to do more to solve the problem and not just be satisfied with the status quo. Ask the Governor of Arizona if the Federal Government is doing a good job of controlling illegal immigrants.

Although I made no mention of this in my letter, I agree with Mr. Potvin on the idea that business owners who hire the illegal people are contributing to the immigration problem. But I don't go along with his implication that I should put a stop to this practice. This is the job of the government and another one that they are not doing much about.

Mr. Potvin informs me that illegal immigrants can't vote. I happen to know that. I said they were "potential" voters. If Obama and Pelosi somehow give them amnesty and citizenship, which they will surely try to do, why would the immigrants not vote Democratic? After all it is the Democrats who want to give them free health care, free schooling, free food stamps...free this and free that, costing the tax payers billions of dollars.

[Potvin] states, "That legal Hispanic voters tend to trend Republican, not Democrat." I don't know where he gets that idea. The information I get from the Internet states that most recent polling from Gallup shows Hispanics generically favoring Democrats over Republicans by 2 to 1.

Thanks for printing my response.
