Cartersville Cobias take gold, five other medals

The Cartersville Cobias swim team picked up six medals, highlighted by a gold in the 25-yard butterfly, in state competition.

Rylee Moss

Top medalist winner was Rylee Moss, 8, the daughter of Chris and Maurni Moss, who earned a gold medal in the 25-yard butterfly with a time of 16:19.

Rylee won a silver medal in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:25:50. She also won a bronze medal for a third-place finish in the 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:20:07.

She finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:10:80.

Makayla Ludwick

Makayla, the 8-year-old daughter of Mike and Michelle Ludwick, earned a bronze after placing third in the 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:20:07.

She placed fourth in the 25-yard backstroke with a 20:06 and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle relay with 1:10:80.  

Samantha Mobley

Samantha, 7, daughter of Mike and Michelle Mobley, brought home a bronze medal for finishing third in the 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:20:07. She took seventh in the 100-yard freestyle relay with 1:10:80. 

Samantha, who began competition swimming in May of this year, is the only 7-year-old on the relay team.

Rachel Long

Rachel, the 8-year-old daughter of David and Amy Long, completed the finals with a bronze medal for third place in the 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:20:07.

She placed seventh in the 100-yard freestyle relay with 1:10:80. She also competed in the 7-8 girls 50-yard freestyle and finished in 41:43.

The girls 7 - 8 relay team, includes Samantha, Rachel, Rylee and Makayla.

Other finishes

Here’s how other Cartersville Cobias swimmers finished:

Brynna Wolfe, in the 9-10 girls 50-yard freestyle, finished with a time of 32:84; and in the 9 - 10 girls 25-yard freestyle she turned in 15:26.

Levi McCrary, Matthew Monforte, Chanc Willis and Brandon Lawhorn, the 7-8 boys relay team, finished the 100-yard medley with a time of 2:00:33.

Austin Barrena, in the 9-10 boys 25-yard freestyle, finished with 16:17.

Nolan Watson took fourth place in the 50-yard breast stroke with a time of 35:94.

Erin Williams completed the finals with sixth place in the 13-14 girls 50-yard freestyle with 27:96.

The 15-18 boys relay team, Sky Jones, Zachary Naelitz, Shane Walters and Norman Clanton, finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49:09 and in sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with 1:35:58.  

The 14-and-under girls relay team — Maddie Braid, Erin Williams, Kalai Willis and Hannah Surrett — completed the 200-yard medley relay in 2:23:27.

Shane Walters competed in the 15-18 boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.11.

Wesley Shores competed in the 11-12 boys 50-yard backstroke and finished with a time of 37:28. He also competed in the 11-12 boys 50-yard butterfly and finished in 36:95.

Maddie Braid competed in the girls 13-14 50-yard butterfly and finished with a time of 31:06.

Adam Brawner competed in the boys 13-14 50-yard butterfly and finished with a time of 33:76.

Chloe Hobgood competed in the 15-18 girls 50-yard backstroke and finished in 35:89.

Morgan Johnston competed in the 15-18 girls 50-yard butterfly and finished in 31:64.

Zachary Naelitz competed in the 15-18 boys 50-yard butterfly and finished in 26:46.

Sky Jones competed in the 15-18 boys 50-yard butterfly and finished in 26:46.
