Lady Eagles open season with 9-run shutout of Mount Paran

The Excel Christian Academy softball team began its quest for another Elite 8 appearance Thursday with a 9-0 home win over Mount Paran.

Janna Scheff pitched five innings for the win, finishing with eight strikeouts and giving up three hits.

Scheff also led her team offensively, notching four RBIs and two hits.

Sydney Howell had two hits, an RBI and three runs for the Lady Eagles; Kaye Sullins had two hits, an RBI and a run; Abby Hibbard had a hit; Kelly Sullins had a hit and two RBIs; Erin Brown had a hit; Eden Fulmer had a hit, an RBI and two runs; Amanda Haney scored two runs; and Stephanie Rosser scored one run.

Excel is back in action Thursday, Aug. 19, at Fellowship Christian in Roswell. The game starts at 5 p.m.

The Lady Eagles (1-0) made the Georgia High School Association Class A quarterfinals last season and are hoping to return to Columbus, the site of the Elite 8.
